Learn to flex your mind for the good of all. Mentats are people from Frank Herbert's Dune mythology who have undergone training and developed their cognitive and analytical skills to staggering heights. Inspired by this ideal, Beginning Mentat Training is an idiosyncratic course on rationality, science and math, focusing on techniques that can be used in everyday life. Absolutely no background in technical fields required! Material will be presented in an engaging and practical form, focusing on core skills with broad applicability. Each class will consist of a lecture followed by discussion and practice; later classes will cover material chosen by students.
A discussion-based class exploring the challenges in creating successful non-hierarchical groups.
Each class member will get a chance to present a project they're working on, which will then be workshopped with the group for new ideas. Following the workshopping session will be a meta-discussion, assessing their presentation, and analyzing the dynamics of the group.
As well as honing effectiveness in groups, this class endeavours to help people with stalled projects get up-and-running again
