The 519 Community Centre, 519 Church St.
Room 201
WHAT’S ALL THIS THEN?
How can independent media skill-sharing help build libertarian education today?
The Anarchist Free University is organizing a workshop this February to help us find out! The workshop will feature:
- News about building a media cooperative in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya;
- Sharing participants’ experiences in media skill-sharing and popular education;
- Tolstoy and Ferrer’s classic theories of libertarian pedagogy;
- A group discussion on how these theories can be applied to media skill-sharing and popular education today.
WHO’S IT FOR?
- Anyone interested in actively discussing these topics
- Experience in either independent media or popular education is important
- Membership in an existing group is an asset
- You don't have to be an anarchist--but our workshop aims to be a non-hierarchical space that challenges all oppression!
- 20 spots available! Register now by contacting owen@rebelfilmboard.org!
WHY DO IT?
The workshop has its advantages:
- Exchange information with other groups and individuals doing similar work
- Synthesize theory and practice, and maybe come up with some useful new ideas
- Make new friends in other fronts of struggle
DO I HAVE TO PREPARE?
Try to read these articles in advance (and any others related to Tolstoy, Ferrer, or other libertarian pedagogues - don’t let Owen control the knowledge!!):
- The Educational Philosophy of Tolstoy by Adir Cohen (available on JSTOR)
- The Escuela Moderna Movement of Francisco Ferrer: “Por la Verdad y la Justicia” by Geoffrey C. Fiddler (available on JSTOR)
