Radical Pedagogy Workshop Series

The current search for new educational funnels must be reversed into the search for their institutional inverse: educational webs which heighten the opportunity for each one to transform each moment of his living into one of learning, sharing, and caring.

—Ivan Illich, Deschooling Society

The educator must himself be educated.

—Karl Marx, Theses on Feuerbach

Knowledge and community are living things! They depend on each other and when given the proper space and care, they mutually augment the other as they grow to become the very sinews of civilization.

The Anarchist Free-University invites the community to collectively explore and expand the horizon of educational possibilities that open up for us when we choose to operate outside of established institutions. Our aim is to reawaken currents of historical struggle and achievement to ignite greater self-consciousness among ourselves and a stronger sense of purpose in our collective project. Through active, participatory engagement with theory and history, the following workshops are designed to impart knowledge, spark dialogue and open up new pathways for radical experimentation. To that end, each four-hour workshop will itself be an experiment in radical pedagogy in our attempt to mobilize some of the very methods and ideas under examination.

We welcome your thoughts, experiences and energy!
